What Should I know When Engraving Trophies and Awards

You’re in charge of ordering the trophies for the big event. And you have to come up with the engraving, too. Looking at a blank screen can be intimidating and overwhelming. But it can be a lot easier if you just approach this critical task with a little background information. Here are some simple tips to follow to make the personalization job a little easier.

Keep It Simple

This is the most important thing to remember when engraving a plaque or trophy or other award - Keep It Simple. Most trophies have a small plate on them for personalization so you really can’t put a lot on them. It’s especially hard when you have so much to say about the person who will be receiving the trophy or award. But the best rule of thumb on trophies is to keep to to 3 lines or less. Sometimes 4 lines if the trophy is big enough and has the space so it is easy to read. But generally if you can keep the personalization to 3 lines it will be better. On plaques you have more space, so you can add more details, but the Rule of Thumb is to Keep It Simple.
Focus on the person who will be receiving the award, their accomplishment or the reason for the award, the date (the year or the entire date, if it a major event), a Thank You is nice, too.

Make It Personal

Nothing makes an award or a trophy special like having your name on it. When you get a generic plaque for an award, you feel a sense of accomplishment. But when your name is engraved on the plaque, then it becomes a treasure. The same is true for youth sports players who get a trophy or medal with their name on it. Their name on the front makes it one of a kind - totally unique. And that increases their pride in working so hard to attain the trophy or award.
Another thing you can do to increase the value of the award in the eyes of the receiver is to add a personal message to the trophy or plaque. Especially something that compliments them on their achievements during the season. Getting a trophy for Most Improved, or Most Valuable Player, or Best Goalie, or 114 Points Scored, help to remind them of why they received this particular trophy years from now. Putting the team name on the trophy can also make it personal, kind of like putting the company logo on an achievement plaque.
